![]() I
was made Rifle Sergant
because
of my experience with the Springfield Rifles rifle drill team. I
was also IG for my last 2 months. I added a few frills to the
rifle
routines like a Queen Anne Salute, exchanges, and a stairs
routine.
I fought to get real rifles, Springfields or M1's, but no success.
I
remember making the boot blousers
out
of tin cans with pennies taped to them for weight, and the boot-burning
to ready the boots for spit-shine. We wore white helmets
and plain
white ascots with the 1550 uniform. Khakis were phased out that
year.
We threw a lot of 'boots' in the shower, and other forms of harrassment
were common. The 24 hour inspection was brutal. My
best year in USAF.
