Keesler AFB was my military training base.
I was assigned there to learn to be a Morse Systems Operator CRS from
February 1979 to July 1979. I really enjoyed my time
there. I remember having a banana split everyday. I decided
to join the Drum & Bugle Corp because I used to be on the Drill
team in high school as a stepper. As a stepper, we did a lot of drills
so I knew how to march. It was good to be a part of something in the
military other than just an airmen.
I loved the uniforms we had. I learned how to spit shine my boots and make them hard as a rock; that was cool. My job in the Corps was to carry the Blue and White Corp Flags. I was one of a group of girls who follow behind band. The flags were pretty big and rather heavy but we learned how to maneuver them. What I really remember is the exercise we did to get ready for the parades we performed in. There was a word for us to come a attention. "HIT IT'.' It did help me to stay focused during the marches in Mississippi. I also met some terrific people there too. I am so sorry I did not keep in touch we the friends I met. Any other Morse Operators, please let me know. I did find John Fought.
