got to Keesler in Oct of 1956 and joined the D&B corps. At
that time we had a barracks which was part of the 3411th Student
Squadron. The practice hall was just across the street. One
of our benefits was getting to eat at the WAF chowhall. It was
much more enjoyable than chowhall row. We played for
class change between A and B shifts, and were usually part of each on
base parade. Had few details and didn’t have to march to
class. Going to the Mardi Gras parade in 1957 was my best memory.
Don Gardner called the NCOIC Sgt Dant, I believe.
I can’t recall his name myself, but he was a good guy.
I was in the corps from late 1956 through spring of
1957. I played the bugle. This photo was taken in early 1957, to the best of my
memory. I remember that we got to march in the Mardi Gras Parade
in New Orleans that year, and I think this was taken before we went.
I am on the leftmost end of the top row. Fifth
from the left end is William Parker, and sixth is Richard Chapin.
Dennis Swift, Jerry Hoff and Richard Trahern are there too, but can’t
I.D. them for sure.
Dennis, Jerry Hoff and I were all in the same Drum
& Bugle Flight at Lackland. We were volunteers for the corps
at Keesler.
